How To Use Hot Rollers On Short Hair

You can set your hair in hot rollers and let them dry while you put your makeup on or gather the clothes you intend to wear. To curl your hair, you will need a set of hot rollers, a styling product, a wide-tooth comb, hair clips, roller pins, and hairspray. Keep in mind that the size of each curl will depend on the circumference of the roller. Wash your hair the day before you intend to use the hot rollers. That’s because hair that has been recently washed will not hold the curl as well.

If you must wash your hair just before curling, limit the conditioner that you use. Next, apply the styling product to your hair according to the instructions. Use a gel for more defined curls. Now use a wide-tooth comb to remove any tangles and make sure that your hair is dry. Next, using hair clips, divide your hair into two sections. One section from your ears up and the other section from your ears down.

After the rollers are hot enough, take one section of your hair and pull it away from your head in a downward direction and place the roller in that section of hair about 1 ½ inches from the bottom. Now wrap your hair under the roller as you roll it toward your scalp. Keep the hair on the roller tight. The less hair on each roller the more curly your hair will be. With the roller now curled up as tightly as possible to your scalp, use a roller pin and secure it in place. Repeat this process until all your hair is rolled up. Leave the curlers in until they are completely cool to the touch. That should take about 20 to 30 minutes. You can use a hair dryer to lock-in the curls. Now, you can remove the curlers and finish your hair in any style you choose.

Homemade hair conditioner.

Making your own hair conditioner is not only a great way to save money, but it can be fun too! Plus, the ingredients are probably things you already have in your house anyway. Olive oil has been used to condition hair for centuries! It conditions the hair and helps repair damage in ways that regular conditioner doesn't.

To make an olive oil conditioning treatment, you will need:

  • About a 1/2 cup of Extra Virgin Olive Oil, for medium length hair
  • A shower cap
  • A towel to cover your neck and shirt

Directions: Warm up the olive oil in the microwave for about 20 seconds. DO NOT LET IT GET TOO HOT, the olive oil only needs to be slightly warm. While that is heating up, make sure that your hair is brushed and all tangles are out, and drape the towel around your neck securing it with a clip. At this point, you can begin applying the olive oil to your hair starting at the roots and working your way down to the ends. Using a fine tooth comb helps insure all the olive oil is incorporated into the hair and scalp.

Once all the oil has been applied, secure your hair to the top of your scalp and put the shower cap on. The olive oil needs to sit on your hair for at least 30 minutes to really condition it, however, leaving it on longer than 30 minutes will not hurt at all either. After 30 minutes, you'll want to rinse all the oil out of your hair and shampoo it thoroughly. You'll notice an immediate difference in the softness and manageability of your hair. You can do this olive oil treatment twice a month for softer, healthier hair.
